Details of the project
The Arena Mall shopping and entertainment center opened its doors in 2007 on Kerepesi Road, on the site of the former trotting course, as part of a development by Plaza Centers.
On the approximately 180,000 square meter site, more than 200 retail units were leased, and a two-level underground parking garage was built beneath the building. The structural construction of the central third of the nearly 500-meter-long Arena Mall was carried out by Bayer Construct Zrt., meeting a tight deadline. A distinctive feature of the project is the three glass chimneys above the atrium, which provide natural light to the central spaces. These three ringed shafts were built on massive reinforced concrete columns arranged in an elliptical formation, featuring an unusual sloped plane and large cross-sections.
Due to the incline, the structural team had to deal with lateral concrete pressure, which required continuous geodetic surveying during concreting to monitor any potential displacement of the structure.
