Gyergyó Hockey Club

The performance of the Gyergyó Hockey Club is a true success story in both Transylvanian and Hungarian ice hockey.

Founded in 2018, our club has experienced remarkable growth over the past five years, culminating in winning the Erste Liga championship. Prior to this milestone, our team secured two Erste Liga bronze medals, along with silver medals in both the Romanian National Championship and the Romanian Cup.

Our progress is not only reflected on the ice and in goals scored, but also in the unwavering support of our community. Despite being based in the small Gyergyó region, our team has seen a steady rise in popularity, consistently drawing large crowds to the arena.

Game nights in Gyergyószentmiklós are known for their electrifying atmosphere, with the rink packed to capacity for every major match. Even on the road, a strong contingent of fans supports the team, and an increasing number of spectators—many of whom aren’t even long-time supporters—attend our games for the high-quality hockey experience we deliver.

We are committed to honoring and advancing the proud 75-year tradition of ice hockey in Gyergyó. In pursuit of this goal, we took over the management and development of youth training two years ago to elevate the sport in the region to new heights.

We are proud to say that during the 2022–2023 season, alongside our Erste Liga championship title, our U18 and U14 teams also clinched gold medals, while our U16 team earned silver. Many of our players are key members of both the Hungarian and Romanian national and youth teams.

In the 2023–2024 season, we entered the Erste Liga playoffs ranked third, defeating Újpest in a decisive 4–0 series win. In the semifinals, we faced our well-known rivals, Corona Brașov. Despite a valiant effort, they advanced, and we concluded the season with a bronze medal.

The 2024–2025 season marked a historic chapter for our club, as we achieved a triple milestone. The season began with the inaugural Romanian Super Cup, where we claimed victory in overtime with a golden goal. Next came the Romanian Cup Final Four in Sfântu Gheorghe, where we defeated Corona Brașov 3–0 in the final. In the Romanian Championship Final Four, we once again triumphed over Brașov, this time with a 2–1 win, earning another gold medal.

In the Erste Liga playoffs, we entered as the second seed. We first defeated DVTK Jegesmedvék and then Corona Brașov, both by 4–1 series margins. In a memorable final, we faced Sportklub Csíkszereda and emerged victorious with a 4–2 series win—raising the trophy on their home ice.

This historic season saw Gyergyói Hoki Klub win every possible trophy in 2024–2025: the Romanian Super Cup, the Romanian Cup, the Romanian Championship, and the Erste Liga. To underscore our dominance, we defeated Corona Brașov 11 times and Sportklub Csíkszereda 10 times during the season.

The next major step in our evolution is coming in the 2025–2026 season: the team will move into a brand-new, ultra-modern home. The state-of-the-art ice rink being built in Gyergyóremete will not only serve our senior team but will also transform youth development and the fan experience.

This investment provides a fitting foundation for a club that is building the future on the values of its proud past.
