Details of the project
The construction of Hungary’s first smart shopping mall took place in Újbuda–Kelenföld, one of the country’s most important multimodal transport hubs.
Etele Plaza has become the third-largest retail and entertainment center in the country. It consists of a two-level underground garage, a ground floor, a mezzanine, and five additional floors, offering 1,300 parking spaces for visitors.
Developed by the Futureal Group, the project accommodates 180 stores across a total area of 55,000 square meters. Bayer Construct Zrt. played a key role in the deep foundation and structural works. Bayer Construct Zrt., in consortium with PBM Mélyépítő Kft. and Sankó-Ép Kft., began construction in March 2018 with a workforce that included 100 carpenters, 60 steel fixers, and 20 masons. The scale of the project is well illustrated by the 165,000 square meters of formwork, 53,000 cubic meters of concrete, and 7,000 tons of reinforcing steel used.
A unique challenge was posed by building above the Metro Line 4 tunnel, as the beams and slabs could not be directly supported on the structure of the metro pull-out facility, requiring the installation of a load-distribution layer beneath the supports. Constructing the high slabs also posed a significant challenge. This fifth-generation shopping mall, representing a €300 million investment, was inaugurated in 2021.
